Amanda Brugel
(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on this part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short duration. Brugel was a young woman living in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. She initially wanted to be an actor, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends could no longer dance with her. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was six feet and one inch tall. After I surpassed my male counterparts at that point, I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to the path she required. Teacher who recommended she try getting a part in the school's annual play. The teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years, Brugel's roles on television and the big screen have been varied. The character of Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel is the sole Canadian on the Season 1 cast of the show as well as appearing only on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
